    Core Functions of the Water Supply Department

    Water Source Management
    • Identify, develop, and maintain water sources (canal, reservoirs, wells, borewells, etc.).
    • Ensure sustainable use of groundwater and surface water resources.
    Water Distribution
    • Design, construct, and maintain the water distribution network (pipelines, reservoirs, overhead tanks).
    • Ensure equitable and uninterrupted supply to all residential, commercial, and industrial consumers.
    Connection Management
    • Provide new water connections (domestic, commercial, industrial).
    • Maintain records of water connections and user categories.
    Leakage Detection and Repair
    • Monitor for pipe bursts, leakages, and illegal connections.
    • Respond quickly to breakdowns and restore services.
    Public Grievance Redressal
    • Attend to public complaints about water supply issues.

    How the potable water reaches to the consumer?

    3. Storage Reservoirs

    These ensure pressure and supply even during high demand or disruptions.

    4. Distribution Network

    A network of pipelines carries the water to different parts of the city or town. The system includes:

    • Main pipelines (trunk mains)
    • Branch lines
    • Service connections to buildings and homes
    5. Consumer Connection

    Water reaches:

    • Individual households
    • Commercial buildings

    Water is supplied at scheduled hours.

    6. Monitoring & Maintenance
    • Maintenance of pipes to prevent leakage and contamination.
    • Quick repairs in case of breakdowns.
