Rajmahal is one of Mahesana’s most iconic heritage buildings, built in 1904 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of the former Baroda State. The palace was constructed as part of a regional development effort during the Gaekwad rule to serve administrative and royal functions in North Gujarat.

Designed in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style, the building features arched facades, domes, and intricate detailing, reflecting the grandeur of that era. It was originally intended for Prince Fatehsinhrao Gaekwad, but after his untimely death in 1908, the building remained unused as a royal residence.

Post-independence, Rajmahal was handed over to the local administration and served as the Collector’s Office and later the District Court until 2017. Today, it stands as a symbol of Mahesana’s royal past, currently unused but under consideration for redevelopment as a heritage museum.
